How to get from Belgrade Airport to the city centre

The airport is about 18 km from the centre, next to the motorway. You have five ways into town, from a free bus to a private transfer. Here's how each one works, how long it takes and what it costs, without the sales pitch.

City bus 72

Line 72 runs from the airport to Zeleni Venac in the centre, through New Belgrade. It leaves from outside the terminal roughly every half hour, from early morning until late evening. The ride takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. Public transport in Belgrade has been free since 2025, so there's no ticket to buy.

Good for: one traveller with hand luggage and no rush. Bad for: big suitcases, night flights (it doesn't run after midnight), and first-time visitors, because Zeleni Venac is a bus hub, not your hotel.

A1 minibus

The private A1 minibus runs from the airport to Slavija square, with a stop in New Belgrade. It goes more often than the bus and is quicker, 30 to 40 minutes. You pay the driver, a few hundred dinars. From Slavija you continue by taxi, or on foot if you're close.

Good for: travellers heading to the centre with time to spare. Bad for: lots of luggage, as space is tight, and very early or late flights outside its timetable.

Airport taxi

The airport uses a zone system: at the taxi desk in the arrivals hall you give your address and get a voucher with a fixed price for that zone. The centre is usually zone two or three, around 2,000 to 3,000 dinars. The driver may not ask for more than the amount on the voucher.

What to watch out for: people who approach you in the hall offering a taxi are not airport taxi drivers. A ride with them can cost two or three times as much. Get a voucher at the desk or go to the marked taxi rank.

Car hire

All the big companies have desks in the arrivals hall. It makes sense if you'll be driving around Serbia; it doesn't if you're staying in Belgrade. Parking in the centre is zoned and limited, and the traffic is what it is. In the city a car is more of a burden than a help.

Private transfer

You book in advance, the driver waits at the arrivals exit with a sign with your name, takes the luggage and drives you to the door. With us that's a black Audi A6 and €35 per car to any address in Belgrade, the same at night and on weekends. We track the flight, so if it's late the driver comes at the new time. Pay by card or cash.

Good for: two or more passengers (it works out cheaper than a taxi per person), night flights, luggage, patients, business guests and anyone here for the first time. Bad for: people who like to wander and find their own way. More about the transfer and booking

A few things worth knowing

Arrivals are on the ground floor, departures upstairs. There are exchange offices and ATMs in the arrivals hall, but the rate is worse than in town, so change only what you need. Free Wi-Fi works throughout the terminal. There's no smoking room; you smoke outside, in front of the terminal.

If someone is meeting you, the easiest place is just outside the arrivals exit, by the café. That's where our drivers stand with their signs.
